Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 21, 2026
Overview
BarkMind (“we,” “the platform”) is an open research platform for canine behavioral data. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.
This policy applies to the BarkMind platform at barkmind.jesseboudreau.com and its API.
Information We Collect
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and display name. Email addresses are stored securely and not publicly displayed.
Behavioral annotation content: Case descriptions, annotations, comments, and behavioral tags you submit become part of the platform record. This content is attributed to your username and may be included in dataset exports.
Media files: Images and video you upload are stored on our infrastructure. See the Media Rights Policy for details on how media is used.
Usage data: We log standard server access logs (IP address, user agent, requested URLs) for operational and security purposes. Logs are retained for 30 days.
Newsletter subscriptions: If you subscribe to research updates, we store your email address and subscription type. No other personal data is collected at signup.
How We Use Your Information
Platform operation: Email is used for account recovery. Username is used for attribution of your annotations and contributions.
Research dataset: Annotations, case data, and expert resolutions become part of the BarkMind behavioral dataset. This data is attributed to contributors by username. See the Data Usage Policy for full details.
Communication: We may use your email to send critical service notices (security issues, major policy changes). Newsletter subscribers receive dataset release announcements. We do not send marketing email.
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
Data Sharing
Infrastructure: The platform is hosted on a private virtual machine. Network traffic is proxied through Cloudflare, which processes request headers and IP addresses under Cloudflare's own privacy policy.
Open dataset releases: When the behavioral dataset is released publicly (planned as v1.0), contributor attributions (username, credential status, contribution type) are included. This is described in the Contributor Terms and Data Usage Policy and is a core feature of the platform.
No other sharing: We do not share personal information with any other third parties.
Data Retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. You may request account deletion by contacting us at the address below.
Annotations and contributions on evidence-locked cases cannot be deleted — this is a core architectural constraint of the immutable dataset. Annotations on unlocked cases may be removed upon request.
Newsletter subscriptions may be cancelled at any time via the unsubscribe endpoint or by contacting us.
Your Rights
You may request: (1) a copy of your personal data, (2) correction of inaccurate data, (3) deletion of your account and non-locked contributions. Contact us at [email protected].
